Creating Links

Internal Links

Creating links in the wiki is very simple, to create a new link simply put two sets of square brackets around the words you wish to link on for example John Jefferson will create a link to a page called John Jefferson which looks like this John Jefferson.

A named link is very much like a normal link; however you can make the text say anything you wish. For example if I wanted to link to the TF72:Ships of the Task Force page but call the link click here I could do so by typing this click here this would create a link like this click here

This is very useful for masking Task Force Specific Pages.

External Links

The code to create an external link is subtly different to that of an internal link, to create a link to the Task Force 72 site you would use single square brackets like this it will create a link that looks like this [1].

To create a named external link you would write the link code like this Task Force 72. Notice there is no pipe (vertical bar) between the URL and the label this time, this is one of the differences between internal and external links. The code shown previously will create a link like this Task Force 72.

Creating New Pages

Creating new pages couldn't be simpler, just create a link to the page you want and it will automatically generate a link to the new page. Then when you click on it the link will take you straight to the edit page.

For example, if I wanted to create a new page called My New Page I would create a link like this My New Page when I clicked on the corresponding link it would take me straight to the edit page.

Or, if you prefer a quicker method, merely go to the Main Page and type in the name of the article you want to create within the "Create Article" section in the middle of the page.

Further Help

Further help on editing the wiki can be found here.

Stubs

Throughout the FEInfoBase there are lots of articles which contain the following stub many of them aren't even stubs, this article is designed to explain when the stub template should be used and when it shouldn't.

What is a stub?

A stub is a short nugget of information that is designed to serve as a place holder for a larger article that is going to be added to the stub shortly afterwards (Within weeks).

What isn't a stub

A short article is not a stub, for example Janus isn't a stub. This is a fully fleshed out article that only takes up a few lines, there is nothing else to add to this article and no re-write coming hence the lack of a stub template.

Creating a redirect page

A redirect is a page with no content other than:

#REDIRECT pagename

Categories

The FE Infobase has many categories that categorize information into easy to read lists. When creating a new page, it is important to file it into the right category. They are easy enough to make. Simply add them at the bottom of an article as their own line of text.

To create a category, enter the following code:

and simply replace "A to Z" with the category title you want to use.

A to Z is the most common and should be included in all articles created in this infobase. The A to Z category contains almost every single article in the infobase for easy browsing by article name.

Other categories include Starships, Characters, Humans, Andorians, Technology, and many many more. Click on the text at the bottom left of this whole page that says "Category" to see them all.

When filing a character into a category, you will need to indicate that you want the character's last name to determine which letter the article is filed under. For instance:

would file that character under the character page and under G, as his last name begins with G.

The same is true for pages about Starships. Proper code for a Starship page would be:

which would file the page under R as it should be.

If you do not create the second half of this and have it just say "Category:Starships" it would file the article under U, as the page title would be USS Rutledge.
