The Scorpion was created from a need for a craft capable of penetrating a defended planetary atmosphere and being survivable enough to deliver it's payload and make it back out.

Although almost fully capable of defending itself against enemy fighters and gun emplacements, the Scorpion is best utilized if under escort from the venerable Valkyrie fighter. It's heavier armor plating, larger size, and load capacity can at times make the Scorpion a slow mover in planetary atmospheres.
