== Introduction ==

The ninth vessel to bear the name ''Excalibur'' in Starfleet, the [[Ark Royal class|Ark Royal Class]] USS Excalibur was originally slated to be named the [[USS Invincible]], but was renamed during construction after the destruction of the [[USS Excalibur/NCC-100001|USS Excalibur NCC-100001]]. She was launched as only the second Ark Royal Class battle carrier and the lead ship of the second carrier group in the Federation.

Her crew is tasked with heading to the fringes of the Federation and establishing contact with former allies, taking care of problems, and helping with humanitarian efforts all without the help of the rest of Starfleet.
