The Redemption was created from a need for a craft capable of penetrating a defended planetary atmosphere and being survivable enough to deliver it's payload and make it back out.
Although fully capable of defending itself against enemy fighters and gun emplacements, the Redemption is best utilized if under escort from the venerable Valkyrie fighter.
