USS Ark Royal is the first of a new class of vessels designed to be floating homes in space for Star Fighter Command's Fighter Squadrons.
The ship is currently under the command of Captain Kurt Darkly as it undertakes its shake down crew. In september 2405 it became apparent that Captain Darkly would continue commanding USS Ark Royal after her shakedown completion, it was orignally thought that the honour would fall to Commander Jessica Rosenthorn however Starfleet Command decided that Captain Darkly's command experiance would make him a better commanding officer for the vessel.
Currently the ship has one squadron attached to it for the duration of the shake down cruise, 5th SFS Ghost Riders

USS Ark Royal was a Galaxy class starship and was destroyed defending Qo’noS in 2390.
