The G-Stop Fighter Deceleration System was developed specifically for the Ozymandias Class to capture fighters entering the main flight deck. It is a series of tractor beams and localized inertial dampeners that work in synergy to bring incoming fighters from high velocity to a dead stop in just a few meters.
Definitions
- v-max - The maximum impulse velocity of a Valkyrie class fighter.
Capabilities
The G-Stop system is rated to be able to safely retrieve a vessel traveling at up to 0.5 v-max. However, the inertial dampeners actually can safely protect the pilot for an entry at speeds up to about 0.7 v-max, and a pilot has been recording as surviving a 0.76 v-max capture, but required severe medical treatment afterwards.
The G-Stop is designed to stop any vessel entering the bay, and will do so successfully up to about 1.2 v-max. However, due to the limitations of the inertial dampening component, the pilot entering at that velocity would only get about 0.7 v-max of inertial dampening support, and would experience extremely rapid deceleration from 0.5 v-max to 0.0 v-max in less than a second, which would certainly result in death. The G-Stop system is programmed to stop a ship traveling up to that velocity just the same, for the safety of the vessel, which is prioritized over the life of one pilot.
