Introduction
The ninth vessel to bear the name Excalibur in Starfleet, the Ark Royal Class vessel is one of only a handful of new ships currently being pushed out of the few remaining operational shipyard facilities. The keel was laid near the end of the Borg War, but progress was painstakingly slow as priority was given to ships that better served the purpose of protecting the interests of the Federation. Now, with the destruction of one of the fleet's battle carriers, the Excalibur name has been passed on to the third carrier which will head up a carrier group assigned to managing the fringes of the Federation.
