Charles Ashcroft looks and acts like a life long military man. He wears his hair short and is covered in battle scars, most notably a trio of claw marks on the side of his head caused by a Klingon female pirate during a mission. He respects only force and shows little respect for anyone who questions his ability or honour. During past missions he’s been known to take things overboard to get the job done. Some call him ‘The Bull’ because once he gets started there is no stopping him.

His long-running military career is representative of his personality. He works out on a regular basis to prevent himself getting ‘soft’. He is in outstanding physical condition, despite being middle aged, and he’s been known to take a risk or two when the situation demanded it. He is an expert rifleman, sniper and is familiar with combat techniques as demonstrated by his marksmanship and his hand-to-hand combat skills.

Despite being a fierce and merciless warrior, Charles is also a man of his word he also appears to quickly form good relations with the men assigned to work under him, who all respect him as a leader.

Charles is an excellent military leader and is charismatic, also shown by the way his inspires his troops before a large operation or a tough battle.

Ambitions

Charles would like to see Colonel again, he’s been one twice already but demoted for actions unbecoming. The first incident happened when faulty intelligence lead to the assimilation of most of his team to the Borg, upon return he punched out the Intelligence Officer, his attack so brutal that he hospitalised the officer for 9 weeks.

The last incident was following a difficult mission which demanded the removal of rebel insurgents from a complex within a woodland area. Over 300 insurgents were holed up fighting against the local government which posed a threat to a supply line of dialithium crystals. His orders were to remove the threat, to quote his report.

“The enemy were in a fortified position with sweeping, overlapping fields of fire, limited methods of entry with no means of covert entry into the facility with roaming patrols of between 4 and 6 every 15 minutes in random directions.”

Charles levelled the entire complex and caused a fire destroying nearly 600 sq km’s of land using the 3 shuttle craft he was supplied with putting at risk one of the regions major spots for exporting food stuffs.

Personal Background

Charles was born into a military family, his father was a long time marine officer and often told stories of his missions as bedtime stories. Charles had 2 brothers, Jason and Brad, together all three would play often with their father when he was home and when he was not his mother would tend to them. At the age of 5 Charles lost his mother, murdered for the food she carried home. Charles holds this close to his heart as a source of instant rage, he remembers clearly her body laying there covered in blood and the three brothers helpless to do anything about it. Their father came home hours later after being informed to take care of the children. At start there was some trouble, the father treated his sons like budding marines and it took some time to get used to this. Eventually however the trio excelled in school as a result even with a few incidents with bullies and a teacher or two.

With a proud father the three brothers when old enough enlisted to be marines, each one asking their father to treat them no different. Each of them graduated and for the first time, split up from each other. It took some getting used to but right away the brothers were sent to the far reaches of space to put mercs, pirates and other hostile forces down. Charles proved his leadership and tactical planning ability early on, his brothers not so much as they rose through the Non-Com ranks. As the years went on all three brothers began veterans of conflict having been through and survived many heated and tense battles. As the years went on, the war wounds mounted and the experience grew he rose up the ranks, he’d made a name and reputation for himself and by 2397 he was a full bird Colonel. This however was short lived, during a high risk mission against the Borg he lost a majority of his team due to poor intelligence, when he made it back, and only barely, he punched out the Intelligence officer. He was demoted to Major as a result and though not phased by this, the sudden loss of his two brothers in the final battle, having fought through everything prior did something to Charles but has never spoken about it and used as strength of sorts though what is yet to be determined.

He darted between assignments, outpost or two, a base then two starships trying to settle, eventually though he saw that his options were few so took what came next and decided to make the best of it.
