Although it is usually hidden from the public, the R'Pas family line has a history of mental instability. While not generally enough to bar members from Starfleet service, it has been known to more often then not take the form of emotional instability. Members of the family line often experience feelings of joy and excitement at inappropriate times. Several records indicate members taking pleasure in the death of enemies or being responsible for causing death of an enemy. Larri's mother, [[M'esserri R'Pas]] is a prime example of this. During her career, she regularly took visible pleasure in destroying enemy vessels, or during the war causing the deaths of Borg drones.

L'arri takes after her mother and has been documented by FMI psychologists as being emotionally unstable. She shares her mother's joy for such things, and has no shame at expressing these feelings as necessary. If not for the shortages of manpower after the war, she likely would have been barred from service, as she exhibits slightly more severe symptoms of her emotional instability then her mother did. Her mother of course, passed the psychological exams and was accepted to the Starfleet Marine Corps officer training school long before the war.

Information

L'arri has been classified in her Starfleet personell record as "unstable" and "prone to violent outbursts and rebellion against authority." For these failings noted by Starfleet and the Federation Mobile Infantry, she is exceptionally gifted with Engineering skill and determination that may seem like madness to some. Her father K'ierran T'arren, taught her and her siblings everything he knew from his long career in Starfleet as an Engineer.

Following her 18th birthday and in the steps of her mother, L'arri joined up with Starfleet's FMI shortly after its formation since it was for all intents and purposes the Starfleet Marine Corps. After an uneventful and fairly easy (at least to her) basic training, she went onto specialty classes for the Officer Training Program. Again, this was in the footsteps of her mother, former Lieutenant General M'esserri R'Pas. She excelled in explosive design and improvised construction. Upon being in the field for her qualifying work, she found while the enviroment catered to her desire to build explosives designed to turn large things into little things, the rank structure did not agree with her.

L'arri had always been fiercly independant. Even at a young age, she tended to do things on her own with no assistance to varying degrees of success. It is no secret that her family is fairly well off in the current atmosphere of the Federation and its former allies.Due to her parents part in the war, the Caitian government had set them up very well. Their exact actions remain somewhat shrouded in mystery to the general populace, but it is known that the actions of her parents in their roles as Commanding Officers very well may have saved Cait from assmilation and kept the Borg at bay from the Cait system for the duration of the war.

Despite her parents life, L'arri never expected them to take care of her forever. While she cannot claim to know what it is like to grow up in the harsh world of the new Federation, she knows she needs to work for her own rewards. In this case, simply being away from Cait and working a job to survive is enough. Not there there is much to get rich off of these days anyway. The FMI seemed like a good way to stay stable and contribute. The only problem was her independant nature.

After getting into a few fairly public and serious arguments with officers and superior training NCOs, L'arri was forced to resign and went looking for another way to put her explosive passion to use in making a living. She is not expecting things to be easy, and she knows she must work for herself. Her sister K'rristina found work as a bounty hunter in recent years. L'arri did not take her up on her offer to be a spotter and co-worker in her contracts, prefering to be independant as always.

Her search took her to spaceports where she discreetly checked around for ships looking for somebody with a keen sense of weapon design and function who also knew how to get more bang out of practically anything.

Personality

L'arri tends to be distant when speaking to people. Usually it is all business and her attitude tends to be crisp and clear. This is not meant to indicate hostility, but many people take it as such. Once on her trusted side, she softens significantly towards specific people. Having picked up trends from her mother (who also has been noted to seem like she has split personalities), she may spontanously find something "cute" and proceed to make it known. Instability like this tends to run in the family, but it is not something that can cause her to mess up in her work.

In addition to the aforementioned instability, she does get a severely disturbing amount of pleasure in breaking things down to their base elements through a carefully controlled explosion that she has created. Her skills at improvising and improving weapons through unique methods rivel any Starfleet Engineer's ability to perform miracles in the engine room. It is because of her adaptability and pure joy for her line of work that she is somebody you would love to have on your side.
