Utopia Planitia shipyards Prototype Starships

Starship Names

S'up. Don't know whether you saw or not but I finished a list of canon FE ships today. It's got all those mentioned on the starship class pages, the Exeter off the FEHQ, the obviously Starfleet ships in the Mothballs section, and the U.S.S. Hood which I've carefully kept away from mainstream FE by having it scrapped after the Battle of Sol but kept the reg real by basing it on a canon DS9 vessel. I thought it'd be a good reference point for people writing service records in their bios - rather than having to come up with four different "USS X NCC-XXXX," there's actually a list of canon vessels they can pick from and in some cases, they can find out added details about it beyond reg and class. Thought it'd fit nicely on the front page under The Fleet. Could maybe do with a rename though - known ships, or canon FE ships.... Anyway, s'up to you. ;) - Chris 16:52, 28 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Thumbnails

Is it possible to thumbnail images in articles here? I've been trying various syntax wot I've found here but none of them seem to work. Are we running on an older version? I seem to remember MJ thumbnailed a few images, but I can't find any now. Having trouble getting captions to display as well. :s - Chris 09:59, 29 Sep 2005 (EDT)

  • I know a lot of articles are locked and you encourage people to post edits on the forums first, but have you considered a series of templates along the lines of,
This article belongs to Taylor. Before editing it, you should check with him here.
that can go at the top of pages as a note? I don't mean for every article you've ever made, but just ones along the lines of FAdm Taylor, or Spock for Alex, ZMB for MJ etc. - Chris 14:49, 6 December 2005 (EST)
  • if there is something we don't want someone touching the Quad inform each other on the forums, and on top of that most of the time we will say in the discussion area of the article this belongs to whom ever or please no one else touch it until i've finished it. but you should always suggest edits on the forums first. -MJ
  • Informing each other (the Quad) is no good for the average editor, and not everyone checks the discussions as a matter of course. I generally do when I remember to, but there was something (I don't recall what) where there was a note on the discussion saying that it shouldn't be changed because it had already been worked out by Dan. Not realising this, I proceeded to edit it anyway, effectively wasting everyone's time. As you know, there are certain notable NPCs in the database that are being driven primarily by one person. If an article is simply locked then there it's a brick wall, but if there's a note of some sort as detailed above, players know where to look into the matter, even if all they'll get is, "can't reveal that because it's a future plot device. Sorry." The template could also/alternatively direct the viewer to the talk page where a short explanation might be posted. This would likely prove to be an aid for COs who wanted to include one of these characters in their simm in a way that would advance the charater in a notable way. - Chris 17:43, 6 December 2005 (EST)
