General Overview
It has been noted by Lieutenant Commander Ashley Hill of Starfleet Medical that James is a very quiet young man due to the fact that he is an orphan and grew up on the streets of Earth during the Battle of Sol. James takes his times making friends preferring to get to know his teammates before making judgments and he has been know to be as a loyal as a Saint Bernard.

James really doesn't have any ambitions in life and that has helped him somewhat when it comes to doing his duty as member of the Federation military.

Most of James hobbies include working on his personal gear that his brings or reading a novel in during his off-time.
History
Not much is known about James early life due to the fact that he was raised in a United Earth government orphanage on Earth; it was recorded that he was born on March 4, 2380. In 2390, James was removed with several other children when the government found out that administrative staff abused the children regularly and would have the on-site doctor cover them up until a child had to be rushed to the local hospital due to an unknown sickness.
As one of the many children growing up during the Federation-Borg War, he as most children was kept away from any information about the wars. Yet, even as a child, he noticed an increase in non-Federation races coming to Earth and he even noticed an increase in children that were not Federation citizens joining orphanage.
When James turned eighteen in 2398, he enlisted in the Starfleet Marine Corps (SFMC) and was assigned to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. During, his 13 weeks as a Marine Recruit, James would still remain a quiet young man during his off time, but during training hour he took to his life like a new born fish in the sea.
During the early months of 2398, James would be stationed on Earth as most recruits awaiting assignment. However in late December, James as well as all pre-graduating and post-graduated classes were assigned to most of the Alliance ships gathering in the Sol System for the upcoming battle. James was assigned to the USS Williamson as an member of the anti-boarding party, most of what happen on the Williamson has not been made public because of the simple fact that none of the crew has been willing to speak about what happen. The Williamson was assigned to the Saturn Counter-Offensive in the earlier hours battle and in that time she was recorded as to being boarded four times.
Even after pulling back to the Earth, Starfleet Command would allow the now mixed crew of Marine and Starfleet to remain in their places even with Private Grim as the secondary weapons officer, a post that he would hold during the remaining battle in the Sol System.
By Day 4 of the Battle of Sol, James had earned the nickname of Reaper from his fellow crew member in the simple that he killed any Borg and anyone in the stages of becoming a Borg. He simply showed no mercy to anyone during the battle even as he opened fire on Borg ships.
In the aftermath of the Battle of Sol, James would be placed on a two week medical leave for due to the fact that the SFMC Command Staff was worried he was a killer. After his two week stay at Starfleet Medical he was placed back on active duty and assigned to the USS Virginia as a member of the Marine Platoon. After the war, the most action James saw dealt with raiders and slavers before he would seek an assignment to the SABRE Corps.
