In charge of Star Fighter Commands Alpha Wing General James Staffson is a former Star Fighter Pilot who was assimilated and then rescued during the war, while he was freed from the collective Starfleet Medical was only able to remove 11.4% of the implants from James' body.

At the present time Starfleet Medical can provide no estimation of when medical knowledge will have advanced enough to rid James of his implants, nor can they answer the question that still burns in Starfleet's mind - what was James' task within the collective?
