Easy to get on with and his calm and clear decisiveness helps out in most situations from bar brawls to command decisions. When he enters a room, he brings a sense of calm and relaxation that’s seems to rub off onto people. Personal Background
Marcus was born in the city of London in England, Earth to James and Helen Lathan in 2341. James Lathan worked as a Starfleet Ambassador mainly working with the Vulcan Government, while Helen spent most of her time looking after him and his older brother Nathan.
Marcus was accepted after his second attempt to Starfleet Academy in 2380. He graduated in 2384 majoring in Security and taking his minor in Command Operations. Marcus doesn’t talk much about his time in the academy and especially his relationship with Emma Reid.
His first assignment was onboard the USS Miranda as Security Officer under the command of Captain Thomas Hunter. Their first mission was to assist Starbase 17 with a Borg attach in which his department head lost his life.
In early 2384, after completing his tour of duty aboard the USS Miranda, Marcus was assigned to the USS Akagi, Denmark Class starship under the surprise return of command of one Commodore Jeff Murdock, who was recorded as Killed in Action following the C’hakilian War.
Later in 2386, while stationed at Spacedock acting as the Assistant Chief of Security aboard the USS Medusa under the command of Captain Sean Thompson. Marcus met up with an old girlfriend from Starfleet Academy, now Academy Instructor Emma Reid and her 15-year-old daughter Amy. Marcus and Emma fall in love (again) but are forced to live apart because of the war and promise to each other that after the war they will get married and return to Earth.
The Medusa participated in a successful joint mission with the USS Ark Royal, under the command of Captain Thomas Marshall in the August of 2388. The two ships rescued several members of a new alien race that had been attack by the Borg and returned them to their homeworld. Impressed with Marcus’s contribution to the mission, Thomas Marshall headhunted Marcus to full his vacant Chief of Security and later become the Executive Officer in 2389.
