The Argo Class is a Starfleet auxiliary support craft attached normally to starships and stations to be used for long range missions. This class is designated as a runabout type vessel as it mainly built to be operated by more then two people for longer term missions duration.

The Argo class was first designed in 2377 in attempt to deploy equipment, and officers to planetary surfaces in large numbers when transporters were unavailable. The Argo was designed with integrated warp nacelles and bendable wings. These wings were designed to assist in atmospheric manoeuvrability. The Argo has a very powerful micro fusion generator to power its impulse and thruster drives through all planetary atmospheres.

Support Vehicles

The Argo has been designed with a range of vehicles. Most prominent among these is a wheeled general purpose vehicle designed to enable away teams to cover larger areas of ground than they would otherwise be able to. Even though the ground vehicle is lightly armed and armoured, it still allows teams to move much quicker then if they hiked/marched, while allowing them to carry additional equipment.

Namesake

Argo is taken from Greek mythology as well as from the Argo constellation (seen from Earth). By 2400 most Argo class runabouts that were created are named after constellations.
