The Caretaker was a powerful alien who in 2371 whisked the USS Voyager NCC 74656 and numerous other vessels across the galaxy to find a compatible mate as he was dying. The Caretaker was from a Sporocystian based species called the Nacene from another galaxy. The Caretaker had remained in orbit in a large station/array of Ocampa homeworld after he and others from his race accidentally destroyed the planet's ecosystem. The Nacene created underground habitants for the Ocampa and the Caretaker remained behind to provide protection for the Ocumpa. He shortly died in 2371 which stranded Voyager in the Delta Quadrant. His array was also destroyed by Voyager to prevent the Kazon from gaining his powerful and advance technology.
