Carl Manax was the owner of Manax Shipping in the early 25th century.

History

Carl enjoyed his life as a young man. His father was an officer in Starfleet, serving on the USS Adamant as an Operations Officer. This mother was a shift supervisor at the Utopia Planetia shipyards in charge of resource allocation. He was their only child as they the majority of time away from each other. Since he spent the majority of his time on the shipyards, he never felt at home on Earth. His fascination with ships of any type grew as he would watch the construction and repairs of many types of ships. However, he grew to hate Starfleet as he blamed them for never being able to see his dad, and ultimately his father’s death. Still he loved his life and worked his way through school. Instead of attending Starfleet Academy, he took a job with a local freight company that ran supply lines from Bajor to Earth and then to the shipyards. It was also there that he met his wife, Andrea. They met on a trip from Bajor to Earth. She was assigned as a medic on one of the transports and Carl was the navigator. He fell in love during that trip, but she could care less. He began to do favors to get placed on the ships that she would be stationed on. Finally, after a few months, they would begin to share coffee and drinks and then meals. A couple of years later, they would be married. Carl was happy and starting a new family. Also, he had saved up money and purchased a used freighter which he used to do his own runs. He chose to work in areas that others wouldn’t like to run, concentrating on areas around the Klingon / Federation Border. He found out that his wife was pregnant and he was able to be home when his first of three sons were born. Life was good and he enjoyed his job…..

Then the Borg attacked. At first, he relished the idea of working during the skirmishes. People needed supplies and refugees needed moving. He made more during that time then he did his first 3 years of working for himself. With the extra money, he was able to buy a fleet of new frieighters. When his sons finished school he was hoping they following him into the family business. Dante and James followed, but his youngest son, Kaleb immediately applied for Starfleet. They had argued over his application, but in the end, he had given Kaleb his blessing and watched him go.

As the Borg War increased in intensity, Carl and his family spent less and less time together. His mom, who should have retired and enjoyed grandchildren, kept working as the need for experienced officer were needed. More and more runs were executed and the days seemed to run together and drag on Carl. He fought to keep in touch, remembering birthdays and holidays.

It came to a head when it seemed all would be lost. They had been pushed back to Sol. On his return from his last trip, he found out that his youngest son, was presumed dead or assimilated when the USS Adamant was lost at the battle of Bajor. Carl almost lost his mind, but he had to help the rest of his family grieve their loss. One of the first incursions into Sol, was against the Utopia Planetia shipyards. His mother died in the attack. He cried the rest of the night as he sat in his freighter.

As all the allied ships were formed up in orbit around Earth, Carl was pressed into service. This fleet of freighters were armed with weaponry and they were tasked with following the other ships and beam survivors off of damaged ships. His wife was stationed aboard the USS Diligence in the medical bay. As the borg attacked, he was part of the force that moved to attack a force of Tactical Cubes that had split off from the main force. They fought them off bravely. But it wasn’t without loss. The USS Diligence had suffered severe damage. Instead of waiting to be destroyed the ship’s captain had used the ship to ram a damaged sphere. Both the ship and the sphere were destroyed and Carl lost the love of his life. The only thing that helped him was that both Dante and James lived through the battle.

Now, after rebuilding Manax Shipping, Carl’s hatred of Starfleet as grown. He decided to move his entire company to Deep Space 5, running shipments out near the New Frontier of the Federation. He brought with him his fleet of freighters, and his two sons, who help him run the company.

Personality Profile

Carl’s personality falls within two descriptions. With his friends he is open, generous and caring. Unfortunately, few can call him a friend. With strangers and those he has no respect, he is gruff, intimidating, blunt and forceful. If he hates you, watch out! He can be spiteful, vindictive and violent. Losses in his life have left him outwardly bitter and callous, while inside he is hurt and injured. He has a sense of morals and fairplay, but his family and business come first.
