The Danube Class Runabout is a small but capable starship designed mainly as a courier and light transport, but its modular design allows it to be fitted for a variety of roles. They can be fitted with modules for Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Technological Assessment and General Research, as well as a mission-optional Long Range Sensor packages to assist in exploration duties. The aft section houses a living compartment with mess facilities and sleeping area, allowing the crew to engage in long-duration missions in relative comfort.

The cockpit of the Danube Class houses the main control stations for the runabout. Physical access to the vessel's computer and sensors is gained by way of floor panels. Main entry hatches are on either side at the rear of the cockpit. The midships compartment contains the transporter. A small head with toilet, lavatory and sonic shower is on the starboard side, and a storage compartment for environment suits and other equipment is on the port. The transporter module contains a small beverage replicator for flight personnel. A Jefferies tube along the upper spine of the runabout can be accessed through an overhead hatch.

Special duty lab modules
The central payload module contains a central corridor and four quarter-load, or "quad-load," lab modules in its standard configuration. These modules can be swapped out for a dual lab configurations as well. The aft crew compartment contains living quarters for extended missions.

On either side of the door is a pair of double bunks with privacy curtains. Immediately aft of the bunks are an LCARS terminal to starboard and a food and beverage replicator to port. Aft is a table and chairs. Built into the walls are a number of small equipment lockers. Windows in the side and aft bulkheads provide a view of space. The upper spine contains the warp core and the deuterium/antideuterium tanks. The side pods contain the impulse drives and support the warp nacelles.
