Eden Enigma was born on Mannheim Temporal Research Facility in 2366, a mere six years before the Borg invasion. Her father was the station's commanding officer; her mother the Betazoid doctor assigned to the base. Her mother died when Eden was a year old, killed during a classified mission.

Before Mannheim was attacked by the Borg, Eden - then eight - was sent to Earth to live with the family of retired Admiral Brown. She was raised there, entering Starfleet Academy at 17, and graduated at 23 with honors. She held a degree in temporal physics, but entered Starfleet as a security officer, knowing that there was, at that moment, greater need of her talents at combat than at physics.

She served in the evacuation of Qualor, showing great distinction and calm under pressure, and gained the attention of her commanding officer. When the ship she was aboard faced the Borg at Sirius in a skirmish and was destroyed, she was one of the last into the escape pods, aiding injured crewmates in their escapes. She recieved a commendation for this upon returning to Earth.

Eden did not serve in the Delta Quadrant campaign, instead opting to take a position as a liason to the Dominion, serving aboard one of the large Jem'haddar battleships. In this capacity, she served in multiple battles against the Borg, and was given the nickname Little First for her valor and her loyalty to her allies.

By the time of the Battle of Sol, Eden was serving as Executive Officer on the USS Franz Ferdinand. The ship came through the battle intact, though Eden was badly injured when she took over the Tactical console after the death of the ship's tactical officer. She continued to serve on the Franz Ferdinand during the immediate aftermath of the war, taking over as commanding officer after the previous captain died. Once the Re-Exploration Initiative began, Eden leapt at the chance to get off of routine patrols and back to what her father had told her stories about, and accepted a promotion to Captain and position as commanding officer of the newly-completed Enterprise.

After a year in command of the Enterprise, however, her foster brother - the newly-promoted Admiral Brown - contacted her with an offer. She was offered the position of new Head of Temporal Investigations. Eden took the position, giving up command of the Enterprise in the process. She almost immediately came to regret that decision - she was the new head of a department with a grand total of two other members - a secretary and a lawyer. She spent the next few years trying to build the department, at last getting them their own offices (though they're small, cramped, and old) and a ship (which is also small, cramped, and old).
