Kelly Lawley
From FEInfobase
2368 - 2382
Born in London, Earth in the spring of 2368, Kelly was the youngest daughter of Michael and Hannah Lawley. She was the only daughter, and was doted upon by her parents as well as her three older brothers.
Her parents were civilian doctors. Working at the World renown London Hospital. Her mother Hannah was a consultant Paediatrician, flying all over Earth giving lectures and training seminars. Her father, Professor Michael Lawley was one of the top cardio thoracic surgeons, pioneering many new techniques and technologies.
Her oldest brother, Michael Jnr was 12 years her senior, and the two were never particularly close. He was extremely bright and it was no surprise when he announced he intended to became a surgeon like his father. Henry was six years Kelly’s senior, and all ways in trouble. He had no ambitions to do anything medical, in fact he joined Starfleet marines at 17, and Kelly was immensely proud of him when they travelled to San Francisco to watch him graduate. He looked very smart in his 2nd Lieutenant’s uniform. It was during this trip; when her parents attended some lectures at Starfleet Medical, that Kelly realised what she wanted to do. She was shown around the extensive facilities, and knew there and then, she was going to be a Starfleet Doctor.
Jason, her nearest brother was three years older than her, and he was set to follow after his parents and oldest brother, becoming a civilian doctor. They were very close, often studying together as they grew older.
When the Borg started their offensive in 2382, Jason was 17, and he went to University, and began studying. Kelly missed him terribly. It was also in late 2382, the first shock of the war hit the Lawley family when they received word that Henry had been assimilated by the borg. The ship he had been serving on had encountered a Cube, and was destroyed. It hit the family hard, and 14 year old Kelly cried, experiencing the first of the pain she would suffer during the war.
2382 - 2389
The Lawleys moved to San Francisco after Henry’s death. The older Lawleys began working with Starfleet Medical, and Kelly attended school near to the academy. Things were tense, but they tried to live a normal life. In 2384, at the age of 17, Kelly passed all the exams and entered Starfleet Academy. She found she loved the life style immediately, and proved a very capable Cadet. She enjoyed the learning, and was indeed a Lawley as she soon excelled at her studies.
She attended graduations, watched the dashingly handsome new Officers as they beamed with happiness. It was on one such graduation ball when she had her heart stolen. One dance and she had been totally smitten. Those blue eyes had remained in her heart ever since. She never saw him again, one evening, and she knew no other man would ever be him.
In 2388 she graduated, top of her class and the pride of her parents as she accepted her commission. She was immediately posted to the USS Hope, an Olympic class medical ship, as a Medical Officer. She was thrown straight in at the deep end, the ship moving to support an offensive. The things she saw then gave her nightmares for the first few days, but she soon realised that she was helping those she could. And those she couldn’t she made comfortable, until they were blissfully past her talents.
The war took a toll on everyone, she kept in touch with her family, surprised to hear that Jason had joined Starfleet, and was serving on a Sovereign Class ship.
2389 - 2400
Things seemed to move fast in the height of the war. Kelly was promoted to Lieutenant jg in 2392, and a shift leaded shortly after. She began to find new techniques to help those who had been assimilated and retrieved. The surgery was intricate, but she was able to help many. The second heart ache hit her in 2897, her mother was killed by a Borg attack on a ship she was working on. Her parents had moved around, offering training and their services where they were needed. This devastated the family, and Kelly threw herself more into her work.
In 2398 she was promoted to Lieutenant and Assistant Chief Medical Officer.
She was a hard working, conscientious Doctor, earning the respect of both her colleagues and those she treated. She was always around, seeming to survive on minimal amounts of sleep. She was still on the Hope, and one of the Senior most Doctors. She was cool, calm, and approachable, making her a popular and trusted member of the team.
When the war finally ended, Kelly took time off to visit her Father and two brothers. She was impressed with how they all had coped. Even her father who had missed her mother terribly, had found a new lady, and Kelly liked her immediately. Jason was still the same, and Michael hugged her and she almost cried when he told her how proud he was of her.
She remained in Starfleet, spending a couple of years teaching at Starfleet academy, passing on her knowledge to the Doctors of tomorrow. Then she was offered a posting she couldn’t resist.
