Personality

She is violent when provoked, and Sarcastic to a fault. She will not hesitate to tell things like they are. After losing so much to the Borg and to senior officers who did not obviously know what they were doing, she pretty much doesn't care anymore.

She doesn't remember her real parents, them having died when she was 3. She refuses to say how she ended up on the USS Morning Star between then and the Battle of Sector M-2913, and what little records remain indicate she had been on that ship for several years. Many Psychologists simply attribute to her lack of memory and willingness to discuss it to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She is also known to suffer from a slight Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and minor Paranoia.

Interests

Any game of strategy

Background

M'Rae was already an Orphan when she became a War Orphan. As a kitten of only 10 years of age she was one of a few dozen survivors recovered from Escape Pods following the disastrous Battle of Sector M-2913 in 2385. Some 200 Starships of the 18th Fleet were protecting Starbase 506, which was serving as a hub for Evacuation and Refugee ships fleeing the Advancing Borg. The Station was lost and the 18th Fleet was devastated, the surviving ships quickly folded into the hastily assembled 24th Fleet - which was subsequently wiped out defending the Guldar System in 2388.

M'Rae luckily found herself on a Transport for Earth. Despite having been adopted by a Starship's crew before the war, she ended up in an Orphanage in Tranquility City on Luna - Earth's Moon. She was never adopted afterward, as resources for orphanages and such were scarce, forcing her to struggle to survive as she got older. She went out and led other children on Raids at nearby supply centers for food. She was caught several times, but mostly got away with it. The Guards, enjoying a meager, unexciting duty safely away from the Front found it a game. They understood she was only working to survive, and sometimes helped her out, teaching on her mistakes. As a result, here she learned strategy and small-teams tactics outwitting the guards and their even stricter Commanding Officer. She also learned to fight. However, it was not to last forever.

When she turned 16 she found herself Drafted by Starfleet to meet demands for personnel to fight the Borg. Knowing full well her unnamed parents died in Battle, she accepted and quickly advanced through the Enlisted ranks. A Field Promotion to Ensign following a brutal battle off Alpha Centauri saw her assigned to the Tactical Station on the Defiant Class Escort USS Thunderhead of the 33rd Escort Squadron, 7th Fleet. They were one of the few intact units thrown into the line at the Battle of Earth.

The Squadron Commander left much to be desired as far as Intelligence went - the Squadron was devastated during the Battle. The Thunderhead was the only one to survive due to her abilities - All but two other Officers died in the Battle. The ship was subsequently scrapped due to excessive damage.

Despite her numerous awards and commendations over a 7 year career, after spending 2399 in a Hospital on Earth, she was passed over for promotion and instead sent to a gunboat on the Mars Defense perimeter as part of the 1st Fleet. After Starfleet finally reorganized, she spent the next 5 years teaching Tactical Officers on Mars where her lectures become cynical. She believed her students should fight to survive, not look good for the brass trying to show off to the Citizens of Earth. Her Supervisors shielded her from scrutiny. This was due to her Cadets in Training, and in the field, actually surviving. However like her time in the Orphanage... it wasn't due to last.

An Admiral from Starfleet Command's Operations Division slipped through the fingers of the Academy Faculty and sat in on one of her lectures. He wasn't impressed with her stated views of the Federation's current Government and after the Cadets were dismissed, he told her so to her face.

He was lucky she was raised a proper Caitian and didn't use her claws - he should be out of Physical Therapy by the end of the year.

Her friends in the Academy which included a few Officers she had served with and taught managed to keep her from getting Court-Martialed. That and Starfleet Command didn't want to waste the talent she obviously had. She found herself being transferred to an out-of-the-way place where it was hoped she wouldn't be able to do too much damage... the Phoenix.
