Re-Development of Nebula Class

The Nebula class was designed to be a multiple-purpose starship able to use different specially designed de-attachble and re-attacble pods to assist with its mission.

2386 saw the Borg War calm down for a brief moment for the Federation Alliance. It gave Starfleet the opportunity to look at improving their defensives among the fleet. With the recent support now coming from the Dominion, Starfleet had the chance to pull a few of their starships away from the frontlines with fighting the Borg.

Starfleet Tactical was able to work alongside a few Dominion scientists in improving weapons and defence technologies. With starship production in high gear, Starfleet chose one ship to try out several suggestions from the Dominion which would improve systems on any starship. Currently in dry dock was the USS Sutherland NCC 72015-C, the ship was to be made a Nebula Refit class starship but resources were short and so it was made in to a standard Nebula class starship.

The Sutherland was picked to test the new suggested systems. For over nine months the ship was at Earth Station McKinley receiving the new systems. The ship was launched in 2387 as saw action against the Borg. The Sutherland was assigned to joint Federation/Dominion task force sent to locate the USS Titan along the Romulan border. The task force was unsuccessful in finding the Titan. While searching the Sutherland and group of Dominion attackships successfully engaged a Borg cube and were able to destroy it. The Sutherlandâ€™s enhancements were seen as an achievement for the first combined Starfleet/Dominion efforts to work together. All Nebula class starships were soon constructed and refitted to the new specs.

Summary of Re-Development

2386: Starfleet Tactical develops new weapon systems with Dominion help. USS Sutherland NCC 72015-C is assigned to test new systems. The shipâ€™s construction is moved to Earth Station McKinley. Upgrades and refits are installed and general reviews are underway. New type twelve phaser banks are installed and photon torpedo arsenal is increased. Trelinium powered warp core installed and warp core testing begins. Mid year warp core reviews are complete. High level structural integrity field is incorporated in to the design.

2387: Final enhancements are complete, and construction of the ship is finished. On 16th January 2387 USS Sutherland is officially commissioned by Starfleet during a brief ceremony. Bridge Plaque is put in pride of place and Captain Spencer Corfield takes command of the ship. USS Sutherland is ordered to the front lines to fight the Borg.

2400: USS Vendetta NCC 90198 and USS Vengeance NCC 90199 are both constructed side by side at the Oakland shipyards. On 10th December 2400 USS Vendetta is officially commissioned by Starfleet during a brief ceremony. Bridge Plaque is put in pride of place and Captain Jessica Galagher takes command of the ship. USS Vendetta is ordered to begin re-exploring the Alpha and Beta Quadrants.

2401: On 28th January 2401 USS Vengeance is officially commissioned by Starfleet during a brief ceremony. Bridge Plaque is put in pride of place and Commander Catherine Townsend takes command of the ship. USS Vengeance is ordered to join the Earth Defence Force.
