Background

Ralii was born at the andorian run, Kishara Research Station in the Theta Cygni System. The station had around seven thousand occupants, of which, only a few were Aenar. The station was a vast complex of decommissioned and partially destroyed ships built into the station and made into usable living space. He lived there with his parents and two sisters, alongside the station's other residents. It was a strictly civilian research colony, but was known for having excellent shielding capabilities and operated from behind a well maintained cloaking device.

All of this, as well as the stations somewhat remote location, was likely the reason that it never suffered a Borg attack. The station was in fact so Isolated, that its occupants only kept loose contact with Andoria and knew very little of the Borg threat.

As Ralii and his sisters grew up, they worked under their parents, who were both chemists, and learned their trade. Life in the scientific community was peaceful. However, as the war with the borg got worse back in federation space, much of the andorian youth, Ralii among them, decided to follow the call to arms and enlisted in Starfleet.

In those dark times, Ralii began his medical studies. He excelled in his training to become a doctor, but it was hard to him to maintain his spirits. There was a gruesome and terrifying war under way, and Starfleet Medical saw the worst of it. During his entire time in the academy, he suffered from crippling depression and anxiety. This was only magnified by his already prevalent telepathic abilities, as an Aenar.

He was stationed at a makeshift hospital in the city of Providence, Earth. Here he treated casualties of the war effort. Many of which were civilians from various planets and installations throughout the system. The extreme suffering and casualty rates took its toll on the young medical officer. He became increasingly depressed, spending most of his time under the imfluence of alcohol of other depressants. He rarely would sleep, as he had vivid nightmares of the borg and their victims.

During his second year in Providence, he strangled one of his superior officers to the point of unconsciousness for attempting to euthanize an injured vulcan girl. The girl had suffered severe burns in a plasma fire. She was in critical condition, but treatable. However, his superior was worried that treating her would detract from their ability to treat other, more "useful" patients. Namely starfleet officers.

The girl survived, but Ralii was stripped of his rank and demoted to ensign for his actions. His relationship with his commanding officer was irreparably damaged, and he was soon after given transfer orders to serve aboard the USS Tesla.

He was given these orders just in time to fight in the battle of Sol. The most gruesome battle of federation history that is forever etched into Ralii's mind. By the end of the battle, The Tesla had been destroyed, and Ralii had a piece of metal shrapnel protruding from his chest, and he and the four other survivors from his ship had made it to a small escape pod. Near death, the small group played dead in space until they were rescued.

Upon his return to earth, and his recovery from his injuries, Ralii was awarded the Purple Heart for being injured in battle, and was promoted once more, to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. He was then transferred to the USS Nosferatu to begin the clean up process of the federation- or what was left of it.

Though contact was completly lost with Andoria, Ralii maintained contact with Kishara Station and his family. This was one of the only things that kept him sane. For the Nosferatu was tiny, cramped, and dark. Overcrowded with very little working equipment. There were several areas of the ship that constantly had artificial gravity malfunctions, and there were only two working showers, and one toilet. The crew lived off of rations, and sickbay was always crowded. They had to provide medical relief for the immigrants in the ships in earth's orbit even though they didn't have the resources to take care of themselves.

Still, the Nosferatu was a vast improvement from his time on the Tesla and at Providence Medical Base. Ralii was somewhat saddened when he was once more, given transfer orders. This time to the USS Blattaria, a science vessel-turned war ship. Even more cramped and drained of resources than the Nosferatu. The chief medical officer had died the day before Ralii's arrival, thus he was given a promotion to lieutenant, and the position of CMO on his first day there.

He found his new command position to be taxing, to say the least. he increased his alcohol abuse and began mutilating himself as a means of release from the constant death and destruction around him. Still, for the next four years he managed to keep doing his job and making the best of things under the circumstances.

How was he repaid? He was transferred once more, when Starfleet decided to scrap the Blattaria for its parts. This time, the the USS Triton. He hopes desperately that this new post will bring him more peace than his previous ones.
