Talk:Federation Senate

Not that anyone asked, but given the confusion that's liable to come from us creating such a complex fictional government, I'm for scrapping the Senate completely and working on the Council alone. This is at least ten times more complicated than creating such a group for a country because we not only have different species to consider, but areas as well. Maybe French Tellarites disagree heartilly with Austrian Tellarites, and the Human population of Swahili feels seconded by the Denobulan population. This has the potential to become so confusing it hurts, and I don't see how having a seperate governmental body will benefit any simm within FE. I fully intend to work on expnading the government within FE, but it's complicated enough without creating new bodies. Canon establishes nation states such as the African Confederation, and common sense says there are lesser bodies such as county councils and city mayors and the like. To fully and properly take SFC's current mission objective of San Fran gun control for example, we'd have to involve the city council, perhaps the California state government, the United States Supreme Court, the United Earth Equivelant and then the Federation Council if it was contested as muc as we're making out. Clearly, that would be ridiculous so we've skipped the middle and gone straight to the top, but my point is, when it can get as multi-layered and confusing as this right at the beginning, adding extra governmental bodies isn't going to help anyone. - theChris 13:17, 17 April 2006 (EDT)
I would agree with theChris on this, having the split confuses the hell out of me personally, so when asked to explain it (As I have been!) I'm pretty much lost.
Just the Council peeps?
