History
The Defiant Class USS Excalibur was deployed in 2383 with Captain Richard Winters as the Commanding Officer to combat the increasing Borg threat in the Alpha and Beta quadrants. The ship was assigned to a small fleet of ships tasked with defending the farthest reaches of Federation space against attack. There the Excalibur and her crew served with distinction against Borg forces and was credited with holding the line on more than one occasion.
However, her life was short as she was destroyed in 2386 while defending the Ferenginar system against a Borg assault. Reports indicated that the Excalibur had sacrificed herself in order to try and put a halt to a Borg Cube assaulting the planet. All hands were lost.
