Matthew Royce is the Executive Officer of Starfleet's Second Fleet, and the captain of the USS Lexington. Unarguably one of the greatest battle commanders of the Borg War, he was one of the youngest Captains in Starfleet history, won the Medal of Honour in a battle in the mid-90s, and has championed Starfleet's re-expansionism efforts even through the Second Fleet's repeated leadership problems. Still the Fleet's most stable long-term commander, his responsibilities see him these days overseeing the task force's daily operations from behind the lines rather than spearheading the expeditionary forces.

Physical Appearance: Once a tall, broad, powerful man, age has certainly taken its toll on Royce. War-time saw him taking pride in his form - peace and a love of life's enjoyments have now led to soft living. He has a rapidly expanding gut that's seen three new cuts of uniform in the last six years, a strong jawline is now a double chin hidden by a thick, bristly beard, and his once bright, piercing blue eyes now seem a little deep-set and piggy. It is rare that people can reconcile his appearance as an aging, past-it commander who seems to love food and drink more than his duty with his reputation as a war hero.
