Earth, also referred to as Sol III is the third planet in the Sol System where it is the only M-class body, primary homeworld to Humanity and capital world of the United Federation of Planets, located almost exactly on the division between the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, though the system is recognised as an Alpha location. It has one natural satellite, Luna, referred to simply as "The Moon" from the planet's surface and more scientifically, Sol IIIa.

History
Earth was formed approximately 4.5 bilions years ago, along with the rest of the Sol System. The only intelligent race known to have evolved on Earth are Humans, though reports from the USS Voyager reveal that the Voth scientist Forra Gegen theorised that his species may have evolved on Earth before Humans, from cold-blooded dinosaurs rather than mammals. Earth has recieved a number of extra-terrestrial visits since its creation from a variety of species, some of which were originally believed to be gods by Humans. The planet has a violent history, with countless wars, the most costly being three "world wars," the last of which saw the deaths of over 600 million Humans before it ended in 2053.
Humanity achieved warp speed in 2063 as Zephram Cochrane broke Warp one with his ship the Phoenix. Shortly after Cochrane landed, the first official contact with alien life occurred as a Vulcan survey team landed in Montana aboard the T'Plana hath, and the years following this proved to be ones of rebuilding, with the first United Earth Government established by the mid 22nd century and in 2161, Earth was one of the founding members of the Federation and provided the location for its central organisation.
There have been numerous attempts to attack Earth since the planet joined the Federation, the most notable success prior to the Borg War being that of the Breen attack on Starfleet Command and San Francisco in 2375. In 2398 during the Battle of Sol, Earth sustained major damage to a number of its major population centres resulting in the deaths of tens of millions of people.
Earth now plays home to a great many different species including a number of aquatic lifeforms, and has a population of almost 15 billion on the planets surface and billions more in space stations in high and low orbit.
Current Political Organisation
There are a number of "super-state" organisations on Earth, such as the United States of America, the European Alliance and the African Confederation. These institutions are subserviant to the United Earth Government, which headquarters are located in New York.
Because Earth is the de facto centre of the Federation, the UEG is often subserviant to the wishes of the Federation Council.
Earth Environmental Protection Act
The act (established in 2396) designated significant locations across the planet that must not be tampered with and to be conserved to the best possibilities. Many felt with the rising number of refugees arriving at Earth during the Borg War that a number of Earth’s natural beauty areas must be preserved. This act was repealed in 2400 and much of what it once protected is now heavily populated land.
Locations
Orbit
- Spacedock II - The second of only two Spacedock-class starbases to be built in the Sol System. It is parked in orbit at L1. The station's forebearer, Spacedock I, was originally positioned in geosynchronous orbit above the equator, but was moved to its new location at L1 after the Dominon War when it was realized that an attack on the station sufficently powerful to knock it out of orbit and thus impact the Earth would have catastrophic consequences. S2 was positioned at L1 when its construction began.
- Tera'tengchaH - A Klingon battle station located at L4.
- Vriha - A Romulan battle station and construction facility located at L5.
Countries
- Greenland - The largest Andorian settlement on Earth is located here. The settlement also plays home to a smaller number of Aenar.
- United States of America - One of the largest countries which holds many Starfleet buildings. It has 50 States and the capital city is Washington D.C.
- States of the US
- Hawaii - An island in the Pacific Ocean, and a state of the US. It was designated as an area of land placed in to the Earth Environmental Protection Act of 2396. It's a popular area for Starfleet officers to take R&R on Earth.
- California - This state is a large segment of the west coast of North America. Home to San Fransisco, Los Angeles, and what used to be Disneyland (which was tragically irradiated during the Battle of Sol).
- States of the US
Cities
- Berlin - Home of Sat'n Tor'cis
- Buenos Aires - Home of Starfleet Special Investigations
- Helsinki - A shortage of medical supplies led to a costly outbreak of flu here in early 2404. The media interest was negligible. (SFC: "A Tale of Two Cities")
- Paris - Home of the Office of the President
- New York - Home of Starfleet Communications, United Earth Government. Significant Bajoran population in an area known as the Bronx.
- Lisbon - Home of Planetary Operations
- London - Home of Starfleet Intelligence
- Los Angeles - Home of the Silver Group
- Lyon - There is a sizable Tellarite settlement just outside the city's centre.
- San Francisco - Home of the Federation Council, Starfleet Academy, Starfleet Command,
- Sydney - Home of Starfleet Medical
- Tokyo - Home of Starfleet Science, Almost unchanged since before the war, characterised by naturally fitting skyscrapers built to house an ever growing populace.
- Warsaw - Former home of Starfleet Science. Suffered damage during the Battle of Sol.
