Peter Shaw is the Dockmaster on Deep Space Five, a young officer often found to be responsible for managing many of the intricacies of the station'ss Ops Centre whenever there is no senior staff member present. Competent at his job, he is nevertheless inexperienced, and often unprepared for the varied and unexpected situations that often occur around the starbase.

Physical Appearance

Of average height and build, it is nevertheless clear that Shaw keeps himself in the required good shape of a Starfleet officer. His features are boyish, and he is quick with a ready smile that lights up his face, particularly his bright, intelligent blue eyes. He keeps clean-shaven, his reddish-brown hair of regulation length, and is routinely found to be well-dressed and well-presented. His boots, in particular, usually bear a shine that would bring a tear to the eye of even FMI's most psychotic drill sergeants. As he does not display a quite so meticulous appearance when off-duty, it would seem that this decorum is out of a genuine pride and respect for the uniform and the service, rather than any compulsions of tidyness.

Experience and Assignments

Shaw is one of the most experienced young officers in Starfleet when it comes to post-War starbase operations, which is doubtless the reason why his request for an assignment to Deep Space Five was granted. He entered the Academy a year early, a not uncommon occurrence at the height of the Borg War, though would only see genuine action at the Battle of Sol, where his class were rushed into action wherever they could be found. With the death of the USS Italy's Helmsman, Shaw was the first on the bridge to seize the controls, and though the ship was ultimately lost he received a merit for his bravery in the aftermath of the battle.

Since then, he has served on Spacedock II in its Flight Control department, fulfilling a variety of roles but mostly experienced in managing the traffic and flight operations of a busy and bustling starbase. He has seemed to be an ambitious officer, rising through the ranks quickly, and often requesting assignments on SRI or the furthest-reaching First Fleet starships, obviously wanting more 'front line' action. Due to his competence at handling the responsibilities at Spacedock II, these were all denied, and Deep Space Five appears to be the first opportunity he has had to serve outside of the Sol System.
