Star Trek: Ticonderoga is a sim set in the early 25th century which focuses around the re-exploration of Federation Space tasked by the Starfleet Re-Exploration Initiative.
The Ticonderoga is a part of the Futility's End affiliate which takes place in the aftermath of an apocalyptic war with the Borg in which the Federation came to the very brink of destruction. Although they have won, it was at great cost. The Alpha Quadrant is a dangerous place and few places beyond the core worlds are considered to be safe. Even in this "safe zone" problems abound. Planetary populations are strained, stations and planets are bursting at the seams with refugees, and many key worlds are smoldering, uninhabitable rocks.
Despite this, Starfleet operates a special division called the "Starfleet Re-Exploration Initiative" tasked with exploring what used to be the Federation and finding new allies and resources for the Federation and its people.
The Ticonderoga is a recently commissioned Luna Class Starship equipped for long duration missions far away from secure territory. Its primary goals are to explore star systems and determine their fate after the Borg War while also scouting for resources and making (or in most cases, re-establishing) contact with potential allies.

Prelude - Assembling a Winning Team
After being launched from drydock upon completion, the newest ship in the fleet is sent on a shakedown cruise. The USS Ticonderoga is performing well, and nothing seems out of the ordinary when they receive a distress call from a backwater solar system, 51 Pegasi. Investigating this oddity, the crew discover a heavily damaged 200 year old Federation vessel drifting through the system. Onboard are 6 time displaced Starfleet Officers, among them Charles MacAllen who have an amazing story to tell about how they got there...
In the meantime, the new crew begins to take in their new assignment and we are introduced to several of the ship's department heads.
Season 1 - Mission 1 - Blue Horizons
The Ticonderoga is given her first mission. To go to the Bolarus system and ascertain its current status. This straight forward task is not the milk run it would have been before the war. Perils and surprises await around every turn. Traveling this far outside of Federation territory, you never know what you're bound to find..
The Ticonderoga arrives at Bolarus IX and finds a massive debris field where Starbase 933 would have been. Naturally, the Borg would have destroyed it. The surface of the Class O planet is deserted. All major cities are decaying, and several fusion power stations have exploded from lack of maintenance over time. Mild radiation is found in the atmosphere, but very faint power readings can be seen, including a fairly regular one on a small coastal island.
As an away team is prepared, a Ferengi ship decloaks in orbit and demands the Ticonderoga leave. As a brief battle ensues, several fighters rise from the surface and engage the Ferengi ship, destroying it. While the Ticonderoga determines the crews of the fighters are Bolian, none of the hails directed at them are answered.
Finally, the Ticonderoga is hailed, and the current Consul of the Bolian people welcomes them and extends an invitation to come to a location specified in an encrypted transmission. The Ticonderoga is warned that Romulans are likely in the system monitoring them, as the Bolians have detected them frequently.
As the crew decrypt the location for the meeting, they note that the Bolian fighters have left and returned to the surface... diving below the massive oceans of Bolarus IX...
