Description

Standing at 5 feet exactly Sam has learned to use her personality rather than her stature to ensure she is obeyed. She often wears her brown hair in a small pony tail, when it is down it rests just above her shoulders.

Sam is a natural cynic, she refuses to take sides with matters of internal politics. She expects her crew to act the same way and has been known to discipline her crew if she finds them pedling idle gossip about political matters.

History

The Defiant Class USS Bozeman was launched in 2384, unlike many of the ships Starfleet was forced to replace the Soyuz Class Bozeman was not damaged in battle with the Borg. The ship was decommissioned after Starfleet discovered her hull contained microfractures in several critical areas of the ship.

Sam had been serving aboard the old Bozeman as Chief Tactical Officer and the ships Second Officer, the offer of command from Starfleet surprised her greatly even more so when she realised it came with a promotion to brevet Captain – a large jump for a Lieutenant Commander.

Command of the Bozeman saw the ship assigned to convoy escort duty, a typical for a newly promted commanding officer. After three missions the moment the Bozeman's crew had been dreading came, the convoy they were escorting was attacked by a Borg Sphere. The Bozeman and the other two vessels assigned to escort the convoy barely managed to drive the sphere off, by the time they had done so a full third of the convoy had been captured by the Borg for assimilation.

Battle wieried but alive the Bozeman returned to Sol, Captain Moore imediately requested the Bozeman be sent out to track down the Sphere with a small task force. Starfleet denied her request, they simply had not ships to send out with the Bozeman on such a mission. Despite the loss the convoy suffered Starfleet Command congratulated Captain Moore for her actions during the battle, this is the first of many times Sam hit Starfleet's radar.

Over the next 10 years Samantha undertook a variety of missions for Starfleet, ranging from escort duties right through to large fleet engagements. In every situation she performed her job compitantly and with a certain gustoe that drew Starfleet's attention to her.

Disaster struck the Bozeman in 2393, during an engagement with the Borg the ship lost its shield system. Almost imediately the Borg began beaming aboard in an attempt to assimilate the ship. The Bozeman's crew put up a valiant fight and managed to repell their invaders and restore shields just in time to see Captain Moore assimilated.

Using techniques pioneered when Captain Picard was assimilated in to Locutus of Borg the ships CMO managed to halt the Captain's assimilation. The Bozeman limped back to Sol at warp 3, the damage the Borg's attack caused would mean at least 6 months dry dock time for the ship.

Captain Moore was transferred off of the Bozeman to one of Starfleet's specialist anti-borg facilities, over the course of the next year they slowly began reversing the assimilation process. Had the process been allowed to continue for a few minutes more all hope of saving Captain Moore would have been lost, as it was Starfleet's finest minds managed to remove nearly 94% of the Borg implants within the captain.

The whole ordeal left Sam emotionally, mentally and phsyically drained. As soon as she was able Sam moved back to earth and began trying to secure herself a job within Starfleet Command. Her injuries at the hands of the Borg had left her with a burning desire for revenge, monitoring fleet movements and providing tactical analysis became the only way she could fight back. For 3 years Starfleet refused to send her back to command the Bozeman, despite her frequent requests for such a transfer.

Only the lack of able Commanding Officers caused Starfleet to reconsider their position, In 2397 Sam returned to the Bozeman. For the rest of the war she remained an active and integral part of the First Fleet. She continued providing Starfleet with tactical analysis' of the battles she engaged in.

Following the final battle the Bozeman was one of the few Defiant Class vessels still able to move under its own power. Almost imediately it was assigned to patrol the sol system's boarders and provide early warning incase of any further Borg attacks. A role the Bozeman continued to perform until 2401.

With the formation of the Earth Defence Force the Bozeman found itself reassigned, this time to convoy protection missions again. While they didn't bring the galmour or excitement the Bozeman's crew had been used to, it was a welcome change to patrol duties. Before her duties began Sam was approached by Vice President Jellico, unlike other members of the fleet she refused to enter in to any discussions with him about the state of Starfleet, instead prefering to trust in her chain of command.

In 2403 Sam received orders from Jellico himself, ordering her to return to Earth for re-assignment. With a promotion to Commodore Samantha found herself appointed the commanding officer of the Earth Defence Force. These orders came after the Bozeman was involved in a skirmish with the Vulcan's, the damage sustained by the ship meant it would be forced to spend at least a year in space dock undergoing repairs. Starfleet decommissioned the Defiant Class Bozeman and allowed Moore to choose a replacement vessel.

On the 23rd of September 2403 Commodore Sam Moore took command of the Explorer Class USS Bozeman NCC 100542.

As Commodore Moore prepared the armada to take back Alpha Centauri she was surprised by a visit from Fleet Admiral Taylor, not only did he come with words of encouragement for Samantha he also brought a special gift for her - a promotion to Rear Admiral. It was a move widely critised by the Federation Council and by other Starfleet Officers, while Moore had shown considerable aptitude running the first fleet following Taylor's promotion it was almost unheard of to see someone promoted to Rear Admiral so fast.

Fleet Admiral Taylor's only responce as to release a statement to the press stating "Starfleet gives credit where it is due".

Shortly after her promotion to Rear Admiral Sam lead her crew in actions against Harvester ships that appeared to be on a collision course with Sol. During the battle the ship was boarded, in an unusual turn of events the Harvesters tried to establish a collective aboard the ship, worse still they began attempting to assimilate the crew they encountered. Obviously without thier access to nano technolgies this was done manually.

Rear Admiral Moore was forced to take drastic action to prevent the Harvesters from gaining a foot hold on the ship, the ships SABRE contingent rigged the collective with photon grenades. Although the resulting explosions killed most of the Harvesters on board the ship it also crippled the Bozeman. Starfleet was forced to send out several prototype vessels to assist in the recovery of the Bozeman.

Normally following such occurances Rear Admiral Moore should have faced a courtmartial for the events that lead to the crippling of her vessel, however in a swift move Fleet Admiral Taylor cut orders for Moore to be given command of any available ship as soon as she returned to Utopia Planitia.
