The USS Challenger (NCC 71099) is a Galaxy Class starship under the command of Captain Geordi La Forge. The vessel is currently assigned to the First Fleet and aides in defence of Earth and other neighbouring systems. The vessel has remained in active duty for thirty years now. It had has gone under a number of upgrades and refits during its years of dedicated service to the Federation.
History
During the Battle of Sol in 2398, the Challenger was a group leader and one of the few ships in Strike Force Alpha to survive the entirety of the fight.
In 2400, the Challenger was assigned to salavaging, and relief missions in the Sol System. In Lunar orbit, they not only found survivors on the surface, but one survivor in the wreck of a borg cube orbiting the planet. This was LtCmdr. Kroe'nn, former CO of the USS Armistrice, who beamed his crew onto the wreck, when his ship was destroyed during the final battle for Earth in 2398. Kroe'nn was the soul survivor.
Two years later the vessel led a small task group consisting mainly of Jem'Hadar attack vessels to tow a derelict Son'a Collector from Denobula to Earth.
