The Federation President is the head of state of the United Federation of Planets. The President is in charge and responsible for leading the Federation government. The President is also the Commander In Chief of all branches of the Federation (including Starfleet).

The President is nominated by at least three members of the Federation Council and then elected by the citizens of the Federation.

In 2400 the presidential position could be hold for at least four terms (each term lasting at least six years). In 2398 Ambassador Spock was elected by the people of the Federation to the Presidential position.
