Battle Carrier

Battlecarriers are somewhat of a departure for Starfleet's starship design. As with the Defiant-class starships, battlecarriers are designed primarily for combat, with minimal science and diplomatic facilities onboard. Further, as opposed to most modern starship classes which are crewed by Starfleet with, on occasion, a SABRE Corps team aboard, the battlecarrier is designed to utilize all three major branches of the Federation's military: Starfleet, Star Fighter Command, and the Mobile Infantry. They hearken back to the days of the old blue-water supercarriers of Earth, and in some levels can be said to be the proverbial "big stick" of Federation policy - if a battlecarrier parks in orbit of a hostile planet, you can bet they're not there just to take soil samples.

Currently, the only class of battlecarrier in commission is the Ark Royal-class, serving with the Federation Re-Exploration Initiative.
