Alpha Centauri is a trinary star system about 4 lightyears from Sol and the primary of the Alpha Centauri System.A multitude of habitable planets reside in this system.A generic term today alpha centauri is often used in referance to many of the now non-colony totally habited planets.

The planet Centauri VIIA of the A star system is home to the former Alpha Centauri Colonynow a thriving planetary government and home to Alpha Centauri university.This is the Planet Zefram Cochrane first set foot on and made his home in the early 22nd century.The planet but not the entire system is now occupied and under Vulcan rule.Alpha Centauri C's system also known as Proxima centauri and its associated planets remain free of vulcan control.
