Bolarus IX is an oceanic world, and the ninth planet in the Bolian system from the Blue Giant star Bolarus. It is the homeworld of the Bolian people, and is almost entirely covered in water. In fact, the planet is covered in 92% water. While the atmosphere is classified as Class M, worlds with surface water concentrations above 90% are classified as Class O.
Prior to 2409, little was known about the fate of Bolarus IX. It had been one of the first Federation worlds to be consumed by the oncoming Borg threat and Starfleet was forced to beat a hasty retreat from the area. It is within one of the first major push zones by the collective designed to get a foothold near to the core worlds to mount attacks.
