Frost Station is one of Starfleet's premier weapons testing centres. Shortly after the first fleet was formed Starfleet realised it was developing a shortage of torpedoes. The long war with the Borg had depleted even their vast stocks of photon torpedoes, in the final battle for earth Starfleet found itself deploying ships with torpedoes that were state of the art when Captain Kirk first took command of the Enterprise.

Many of the Borg attacks destroyed facilities dedicated to producing the vastly superior Quantum Torpedo. Unlike the [[Photon Torpedo the Quantum Torpedo requires a specialised environment when they are being created; the quantum warhead is often unstable until properly seated inside a torpedo casing. At several points during the development process warheads exploded destroying half the facility each time.

Once again Starfleet found itself dealing with such issues again.

Frost Station was created to be the centre point of a new weapons manufacturing project, few people are aware of its existence and fewer are aware of it’s location. From Frost Station Starfleet has been creating satellite facilities in the sectors surrounding Sol, each hidden within a naturally occurring phenomenon or cloaked in some way by Klingon or Romulan Cloaking devices.

The constant threat of the Borg’s return made Starfleet realise it could not mount a sustained defence without new and improved weapons systems.

After a year in operation Frost Station has finally begun delivering new batches of Quantum Torpedoes to Earth Station 1, and the other bases in earths orbit.

One ship is assigned to Frost Station the Excelsior Class SS Iron Horse, a ship that has been retrofitted to carry vast quantities of munitions around space.

Despite its name, Frost Station is a planetary base. Named after the famous weapons researcher Nicholas Frost, the man who provided the spark of genius that became the quantum torpedo.
