Personality/History

Keira Adler is the result of an Irish-American mother and a Jewish father. Even though medical science has progressed incredibly, Keira's mother died in childbirth, leaving her to be raised solely by her father, Jacob. Jacob Adler was kind enough, he left the mothering to the members of his synagogue, other than when she spent time with her maternal grandparents who despaired that their granddaughter was not getting the appropriate Irish-American indoctrination. What resulted through high school was possibly the oddest person most people had met. Nearly always a worrier, extremely frugal, a believer in luck, Keira was never entirely a happy-go-lucky child; instead she was so conservative that she believed up until she went to college at Tulane University that she should never, ever consume alcohol, nor engage in any proclivity until properly married.

Life promptly threw Keira a curveball, however, when she began noticing that none of the 'gentlemen' (and she used the term lightly) really attracted her attention. Instead, it was another freshman Jew, one Cortney Laylor who figured her for what she really was. Devastated, and certain that her father would not approve, Keira began going home less and less. While her school work did not suffer, what little social networking she had done was blown away; mostly through her own work. Keira began to dress much more conservatively than before, and she threw herself into her religion with a fervor that led her few remaining friends (including Cortney) to stage an intervention. While not entirely helping Keira completely out of her self-imposed rut, it did make her realize that her choice of partners was her own.

Keira, after graduating in the middle of her class, decided to buck tradition and apply for a position in the Federation Diplomatic Corps as a Foreign Service technician. When she was accepted, she was ecstatic, but life threw Keira another curve. She had managed to join the one service who's job and raison d'etre was going away. Wars, bloody battles, and millions of deaths ensured that everyone was promoted rapidly, whether or not their labors had been worth the efforts: Keira was one of these. Her indecisiveness led to a short insurrection of locals, resulting in the destruction of several Federation land bases, and their accompanying troops. The next time, she went almost too far, acted too precipitously, which resulted in the ship she was assigned to being captured. She was quietly shuffled off into riding a desk for an ambassador to Vulcan, and only escaped because her boss happened to be off-world at the time. After that, Keira was reassigned to the Home office, where she again rode a desk until the war was over. Now, she was given one last chance. One chance to prove that she could be an effective diplomat. Assigned to the USS PHOENIX, Keira realized that nothing could be worse. The ship itself was crewed with the worst that the Federation could muster, only remaining in commission through the lack of available manpower and hulls. Keira is determined to make her career right again, though, and she is willing to sacrifice anything to get to where she wants to go.
