Prophets

The Prophets or Wormhole Aliens are incorporeal entities that live inside the Bajoran Wormhole that the Bajorans worship as Gods. Captain Ben Sisko made first contact with them only days after taking command of Deep Space Nine, and over the next few years developed the belief that he was the Emissary of the Prophets; a view shared by the majority of the population on Bajor, but discouraged by Sisko's superior officers because they felt it created a conflict of interest between serving the Prophets and Starfleet.
The Prophets tended to follow procedures of non-interaction with the corporeal world for the most part, though during the Dominion War they appeared to destroy a Dominion fleet that was travelling through the wormhole, en route to attack Deep Space Nine. This action was taken only at the stringent request of Sisko, and the Prophets warned that a price would be paid in return.
The Prophets appear to be passive in nature, expressing little if any antipathy regarding the frequent travel through the wormhole upon its discovery, or the artificial sealing and unsealing that has taken place over the past thirty years. Indeed it is the religious Bajorans who have expressed most concern over these actions.
