Lieutenant Commander Slade Matthews is currently assigned as the Executive Officer of the Federation flagship, U.S.S. Enterprise, at the encouragement of Admiral Sevlek of Starfleet Command.
Prior to his assignment to the Enterprise, Matthews was a Starfleet Intelligence Field Operative in command of a small covert information gathering unit. After 5 years with the SFI unit, Matthews was encouraged to seek advancement in the starship command track, due to the severe lack of experienced and seasoned officers. Slade accepted the offer, after his mentor Admiral Sevlek added his encouragement and signature to the assignment.
Slade is of a very fit and semi-muscular build. He enjoys physical activites and he can often be found in the gym in his off-time practicing martial arts. He has no distinguishing marks or scars.
History
Slade was born in the Earth City of Baltimore in North America on November 11, 2379. When he was born, his father, a Captain in Starfleet was on assignment aboard the U.S.S. Anrantha in the Beta Quadrant. His youth was what could be considered normal until he was 2 and a half and the Borg began their invasion.
His mother, being a leading medical professional of the Federation, constantly traveled, leaving Slade on Earth with an unrelated child care provider. Slade slowly grew, devoid of having his parents around for longer than a few days at a time.
Slade's life was much like the lives of those other young children during these years, then in 2393 during a Borg attack on the Sol System, Slade lost both his parents to the lone Borg Cube before it was destroyed. Slade was allowed into the command center during this engagement under the auspices of his father's close friend, Admiral Sevlek.
2 weeks later, Slade was adopted officially by the Vulcan, who vowed to teach him all he knew. Slade determined at this time that he wanted to be a Starfleet Officer and do what he could to honor his parents' memory.
After attending Starfleet Academy and graduation Valedictorian in 2401, Slade was assigned to the U.S.S. Echelon, a Defiant Class ship assigned to the defense of the Sol System. After 14 months on the ship, Matthews was offered the opportunity to join a new division of Starfleet Intelligence that was tasked with searching for any Borg remaining and eliminating them quietly and efficiently. Matthews served in the operation from August, 2402 until January, 2408 when he was offered the Executive Officer billet aboard the Enterprise.
