Background

Thea had a relatively 'normal' up-bringing for the child of two Starfleet Flag Officers, one of who served on the General Staff of the Marine Corps, the other as the Commander of a Deep Space Research Station.

Thea spent the first years of her life living on Earth due to her mothers posting to the General Staff, while spending a substantial amount of time visiting her father at his research station, or when he returned to Earth.

In 2382, MGen Angharad Milok was killed in the line duty. It was decided due to the increase in possible hostilities concerning the Borg that Thea would return to Betazed to begin her Secondary Education at the Minraal School, living with her maternal grandparents. The loss of her mother had a very profound effect on the once shy and retiring Thea, during her schooling on Beazed, she became a far more out going person.

At the age of 17, on completion of her Secondary Education, she was accepted to study at the University of Betazed. Her years of study were uneventful, although it was noticed she had an exceptional panache for Xeno-Psychology. Thea graduated with a 1st Class Honours, before going onto study a Master of Science higher degree. While study for this degree she began a passionate relationship with a Starfleet Officer named Katria Talem, to whom after 2 years she became engaged. In 2391, after receiving his marching orders to be assigned to Starbase 72, Thea and Katria Talem (a joined female Trill) became wives. Only a month after the wedding Katria and Thea underwent treatment or Thea to become pregnant by artificial means meshing the DNA of Katria and Thea. During her first trimester, Katria was reassigned to serve as the Counsellor of SB72. It was agreed that on completion of her Doctorate, Thea, and her 'bump' would move to SB72.

In late 2391, SB72 was destroyed, yet again Thea had lost someone she loved to the Borg. It was only two years later, 3 days after completing her Doctorate did her father die while leading a ship into battle against the Borg in defence of Jupiter Station.

It was at this point that Thea believed the only option for her was to join Starfleet. The once proud, loving and open society of Betazed was changing rapidly to one of great mistrust and xeno-phobia. She felt it was time for Starfleet to dig their head out of the sand and begin exploring again. The Federation was founded on the ideas of exploration an peaceful co-operation. With the changes she had seen within the Federation, either they began to re-explore and try to help one another, the Federation and her member worlds did not deserve to survive the Borg War.

Thea was accepted to SF Academy on their fast track programme for Cadets who already possessed a degree. Thea trained primarily in Tactical and Strategic Operations; her experience with xeno-psychology provided a wonder insight when it came to profiling possible hostile forces; something that Starfleet Intelligence picked up on after her first semester, quickly recruiting her to Starfleet Intelligence; thus making Thea one of the few Officers to be jointly commissioned into two separate services within the Fleet.
