NCC-42296

The second Hood was an Excelsior-class commanded by Captain Robert DeSoto. In 2366, the Hood was dispatched to the Romulan Neutral Zone in anticipation of a Romulan sneak attack. In 2368, the Hood was part of the Starfleet Task Force that set up a blockade between the Duras family and the Romulans during the Klingon Civil War. During the Dominion War, the Hood took part in many high-profile engagements, including the assault on the Dominion-occupied Deep Space Nine and the first battle of Chin'toka. In 2379, the Hood was part of Battle Group Omega along with the USS Galaxy and assembled to intercept the Reman Warbird Scimitar. The Hood was declared missing in action following the 9th Fleet's initial engagement of the enemy in the Borg War. Subsequent scans of the combat area did not identify the craft's hull among the debris.

Other crewmembers

William Riker served as the Hood's Executive Officer prior to his transfer to the USS Enterprise-D in 2361. Geordi La Forge also served on the Hood in the 2350s.

NCC-42296-A

Named and numbered for the Excelsior Class Hood, a frontline vessel in the Dominion War, the newer encarnation was a Sovereign-class vessel that served during the Borg War. She was commanded by Captain Martin Mayfair and served on the frontlines in a variety of roles, involving both direct combat and planetary evacuation. As a result of the near-critical damage sustained during the Battle of Sol where she served as a group leader in the main fleet, the ship was decommissioned and subsequently scrapped as Starfleet pulled its resources and strengthened what vessels it could.
