Physical Description
History
Shawn was born to James West and his wife Aunla; he was born at Washington General Hospital on November 18, 2257. Due to complication during his birth, he would become an only child even though his parents consider adoptions.
When he was eight, his father retired from Starfleet at the rank of Rear Admiral and joined a private security firm which would provide security to civilians located beyond Starfleet scope of influence. Shawn would grow up as a normal child with his mother and father becoming very proud of him as he advanced throughout his school years.
However in 2275, Shawn became like any other graduating senior in high school and began to wonder what he would do in life. It would take several months before he decided to apply to admission to Starfleet Academy going against the wishes of his father who found out from an old contact that his son wanted an endorsement into Starfleet. The argument between Shawn and his parents would cause a rift in the family since his parents wanted him to enter the private sector.
He graduated from the Academy in the spring of 2379 and was assigned to the ‘‘USS Maryland’’ as a Helmsman. The assignment to the ‘‘Maryland’’ would be a quiet assignment until the “Whale Probe†disabled the ‘‘Maryland’’ en-route to Earth.
After returning to Earth and beginning repairs on the ‘‘Constitution’’-class, Shawn was transferred to the ‘‘USS Titan’’ as the Deputy Helms Officer. Over the next twenty-one years, he would turn down assignment after assignment to remain on the ‘’Titan’’ and become the Chief Helms Officer.
In 2310, Starfleet Command recalled Lieutenant West for reassignment to the “USS Omar†as the Acting Commanding Officer. This assignment would be for a Cadet Cruise that would launch from the Sol system on April 23rd, 2310 and complete it voyage in the Kaleb system. During this assignment he was giving a brevet promotion to Lieutenant Commander. However, during the mid-way point of the mission, communications was lost and the ship was considered MIA after three months of searching.
It would take the Omar twenty years to return to Earth and at the point the crew really didn’t know what had happen, but the ship was heavily damage and the computer logs had shown over twenty years of combat and survival by the crew. As a result, Starfleet Medical took great care to ensure that everyone was fine, however it has been noted that during sleep period, several crewmembers including Shawn describe where they were as hell.
After returning from his medical LOA, Shawn decided to take the command coursed offered at Starfleet Academy. While studying for his classes, he would work with his parents to repair the damage from the rift when he joined Starfleet.
During the next twenty-five year, Shawn’s record would become seal as order by the Chief of Staff of Starfleet and the recommendation of the Federation Intelligence Council. When he returned to Federation space, he asked to be reassigned to a new experimental division called Starfighter Operations.
Over the next thirty-three years, Shawn would remain assigned to the Starfighter Corps as a Commander of the Air Group. He would be set apart from most in the Corps, he would take some of the most dangerous assignments during the Dominion War, most of which were on the front lines. At the end of the war, Shawn retired from Starfleet at the full rank of Commander.
During his retirement, Shawn met his future wife Sura who was a Marine. However, after the Battle of Raeya, Shawn was recalled to active duty and assigned to Sol Sector. During the course of the war, Sawn was only removed from his assignment for detached duty on the front line to fill slots that had become open after the CAG was killed and there were not enough experience pilots.
During the Battle of Sol, Shawn would become one of the few pilots that made out of combat alive. Over the course of the battle Shawn would almost never leave his fighter expect to eat and use the head. He would sleep in his cockpit and in his jumpsuit.
He started out with well over 100 fighters under his command but as the battle of for the Sol sector went on, he got more and more fighters added to his command and numbers are suspected to have grown to over 300 fighters, and as low as 25 fighters.
After the brutal Battle of Sol, Shawn would retire from Starfleet once more to spend time with his wife and children.
