Xon was one of the most senior commanders in the Vulcan Defence Fleet in the early 25th century.

Originally a member of Starfleet, Xon served aboard the original USS Enterprise in the science department for 7 years. Eventually served a total of 27 years in Starfleet until then-Ambassador Spock convinced Xon to join him in the Diplomatic division. Xon was in Spock's service one way or the other from more than 40 years, even joining Spock on Romulus during the attempted reunification.

Eventually returned home to Vulcan and his wife and took up a command with the VDF shortly before the start of the Borg War.

Xon is only slightly younger than the deceased President Spock and shares almost total opposite views with his one time mentor.
