The Intrepid is now commanded by Captain Donald Kaplan, an old Academy friend of Captain Geordi La Forge. In 2402 the Intrepid was part of a small three ship task group sent to Deep Space One to assist in the station's defence alongside the USS Equinox and IKS Drovana (DS1: "The Miracle Workers").
