Anij is a Ba'ku female who had lived a long and extensive life. During 2375 she supported action taken by Starfleet Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the USS Enterprise-E to prevent her and her people from being relocated off their homeworld.

Some years later Anij had became a member of the Ba'ku Elder, the ruling council. She supported the move to allow survivors from Qualor II to settle on the planet after being rescued by Captain Bryan Cash and the crew of USS Cario in June of 2387. (VOY-A: "A New Day")

In 2401 she welcomed Captain Zack Marshall-Bennet to Ba'ku after he took command of Deep Space One. She noted that he was similar to Picard in his manners. (DS1: "Back To The Final Frontier").
