Named and numbered for the Excelsior Class Hood, a frontline vessel in the Dominion War, the newer encarnation was a Sovereign Class vessel that served during The Borg War. From 2389 onwards, she was commanded by Captain Martin Mayfair and served on the frontlines in a variety of roles, involving both direct combat and planetary evacuation.
Fighter pilot 2Lt (prov.) Cameron Ferguson served on the Hood from 2394 to 2399, earning a promotion to 1Lt in early 98.
