Character History
Early Life
Phoenix was born to Paul and Rose Denton on Earth, in 2374. His father was a Engineering Officer on board the USS Denmark at the time, his mother was a school teacher. Phoenix's first three years of his life was spent on the Denmark, watching his father rise up the ranks, to Captain, and Executive Officer. However, In 2381, James C. Denton, a known rogue hacker and Paul's Brother, attacked the USS Denmark. Paul was accused of collusion, and was subsquently tried for treason. Paul was sentenced to death, and Rose and Phoenix were told he was executed October the 9th, 2381. Phoenix was seven at the time.
Phoenix spent the next few years of his life living with his mother on Earth, slowly developing antisocial behaviour, possibly due to the lack of a male rolemodel. His next two years of school were spent in detention, for starting fights, pyromania, and the like. Rose decided to sent Phoenix to her parents place, to give him a proper upbringing. Then, on January 27th, 2384, Paul returned, seemingly back from the dead. Paul explained to his son that he wasn't executed, instead he was placed in the Special Projects Department, working off his debt to society. Paul and Phoenix then moved to SB317, Paul's new Posting. Phoenix and Paul were family again.
Life on SB317
Phoenix was entered into the primary school on 317, and was a normal student. He was rarely in trouble, and recieved adequate grades. As he began to grow up and mature into a man, a war was being waged throughout the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. Paul and Phoenix were posted onto the USS Portnoy when Phoenix was 16.
Training and The Death of his Father
The Portnoy, a Defiant Class vessel commanded by Paul's Cousin, Vice Admiral Yuri Dentrovich, was involved in few skirmishes, acting as a recon vessel. Phoenix finished his school studies, and began to develop a rapport with one of the Flight Lieutenants. As the Portnoy was on the outer regions of the Quadrant, Phoenix had no way of attending the academy. VAdm Dentrovich allowed Phoenix to undertake flight training, with the field rank of Warrant Officer. Paul was proud of his son, and the two Denton men became best friends, as well as Father and Son.
Phoenix completed his field training, and took a posting on the Portnoy, as a Fighter Pilot. His callsign was "Hawkwind," a throwback to the handle his father had used as a hacker. Phoenix showed some aptitude as a pilot, helping support the Portnoy and other friendly shops from rogue vessels, looking to take advantage of the chaotic air of the war stricken quadrant. The Portnoy was called to Alpha Centauri, to assist with the Second Battle of Alpha Centauri. Phoenix, now wingman to the Squadron CO, will never forget that day.
The Borg Assault overpowered the Fourth Fleet. One of their main targets seemed to be the Portnoy. Admiral Dentrovich launched the fighters, looking to distract The Borg, allowing the Dominion to assault the Cubes with their Pathogen, now seen as a unique weapon. Phoenix and Dentrovich's Destroyers flew into battle. Before he got into his fighter, his father handed him a silver watch, and said the last words he would ever say to his son: "You're my son. I'm proud of you. You've become a better man than me, and I love you." Phoenix's mind was purely focused on two things as he flew into battle. Kill the Borg, and Make sure Dad and I survive.
The Portnoy was destroyed by The Borg. Phoenix watched the ship his father was on explode into a million pieces. Phoenix's fighter was hit, and he managed to land on a Carrier Class Vessel, where his mind snapped, under the stress of watching his father die. As the Carrier returned to Sector 001, Phoenix became suicidal, insubordinate, and alcoholic. He was placed in the brig on seven different occasions, until he left the Carrier, heading to Earth, hiding in the underground system.
Life on the Underground
Phoenix lived in an underground commune when he landed on Earth, where he spent the entire time trying to find a reason to live, now his family were dead. As the final battle of Sector 001 waged in space above him, he developed addictions to drugs, alcohol and women, seemingly no longer caring about the consequences of his actions. He used his former life as a pilot as a way to get jobs flying shuttles with contraband. In 2403, Phoenix was arrested for smuggling, and handed a choice: Clean himself up, and return to flying in Starfleet, or spend 10 years in Prison. Phoenix picked Starfleet, and was determined to kill every Borg he saw. He was posted to the USS Ark Royal as the Squadron XO of Satan's Kittens.
Psychological Profile
Phoenix is a man without any questions about his existance. He knows he wants to die, yet he wants to avenge his father first. His callsign, "Deadman" is an indication of his emotional state. Phoenix has developed suicidal tendencies, antisocial behaviour and substance abuse problems due to the emotional strain of seeing his best friend and father perish in a war his people did not start. There is a possibility that Phoenix may overcome these emotional and psychological problems when he believes in his own mind that he has destroyed enough Borg to pay the cost of his father.
