The communication arrays located on Deck 180 at the very bottom of the base have been removed and rebuilt at the top of the station with their equipment located on Deck 3. Long-term projects include a planned physical detachment of Decks 1-39 from the lower Decks 40-180 and reclaiming this lower half for salvage purposes. It is estimated that the materials salvaged from the base could produce up to three brand new cruiser sized vessels and act as a massive spare parts inventory for current ships and stations.

History

Starbase 565 was a Spacedock class Starbase originally constructed in the Kovar System. She was made flagbase of the Fourth Fleet's Task Force 21 in 2381. It was dismantled when the Borg threat became more apparent in the Beta Quadrant and was re-assembled in the Wolf 359 system. She was commanded by Rear Admiral James Ryan.

The base was all but abandoned in the wake of the Battle of Sol as resources to keep it operational were scarce. During the war, it never saw any actual fighting, as the Wolf 359 system itself was nothing spectacular and had no real value in terms of resources.

Re-Occupation

In 2405, the base was re-staffed and resupplied to function as a forward operational base for the Starfleet Re-Exploration Initiative's efforts in exploring towards the galactic center.

However, due to the base's enormous size and requirements, only the upper section of the base is operational, which is every deck immediately surrounding the interior docking bay. Everything from Deck 40 through Deck 180 is offline including main power, life support, and internal sensors. The station systems end at Deck 40, cutting the entire lower half of the base off to reduce power consumption and extend the base's supplies.
