Kayvin Jal was the mechanic for the SS Starlight in the early 25th century, replacing Anise Selmak in 2405 after a temporal displacement thrust her almost 28 years into the future.

The Jal symbiont has had 10 hosts in its lifetime of approximately 400 years. Due to memory problems, Kayvin's estimate of Jal's age is about 350 years.

History

The female tenth and current host of the Jal symbiont. Kayvin had a normal well-pampered childhood, being groomed to be a symbiont host.

When she entered Starfleet Academy at 17 with an Ops major, and then graduated at age 21, this increased her chances. She was joined on Trill at the age of 23 to Jal. She would have failed the initiate program’s psych tests if it wasn’t for her parents’ political influence. Her father pressed for her joining for the benefit of his appearance as a candidate for the Trill Senate.

She was assigned to the USS Mercury with the rank of Ensign in 2376. Kayvin was briefly involved with the ship's Chief Intelligence Officer, Peter Hendricks. She served aboard for a year before an unknown temporal event involving a classified vessel known as the Paradox sent her to the year 2405. She was 24 years old when she shifted to 2405.

Previous Hosts

(birth-joined-death)

Marin Jal

(1968-1993-2027) The female first host of the Jal symbiont. Born Marin Idaria, the first host of Jal put the entire line off to a relatively bad start. She was known for her short temper, and violent tendencies. She was the abuser in an abusive marriage to her husband, Cevar. After one such incident, she spent the night in jail. Every successive host of the Jal symbiont has struggled to keep her aggressive tendencies under control.

Toran Jal

(2004-2027-2066) The male second host of the Jal symbiont. As promising of a youth as this host was, in his later life he descended into an overweight drunk. He has long been considered one of the biggest failures of the Joinings. Drank every time he was depressed, and he got depressed often.

Solya Jal

(2036-2066-2123) The female third host of the Jal symbiont. She was a medicinal herbalist, an expert at the creation of herbal teas and the practice of meditation.

Oris Jal

(2092-2123-2165) The female fourth host of the Jal symbiont. She had a near photographic memory. Kayvin has commented on the lack of that particular trait transferring to newer hosts. Oris could not go to sleep at night without two cups of tea.

Zarsis Jal

(2139-2165-2215) The male fifth host of the Jal symbiont. He was a noted physics professor at Eyajol University on Trill, who specialized in astrophysical anomalies, and dabbled slightly in theoretical temporal mechanics.

Fassa Jal

(2193-2215-2277) The female sixth host of the Jal symbiont. Born Fassa Amani. She was an Ambassador working in cooperation with the Federation and the Trill, spent a brief time aboard the original USS Venture Star.

Soraya Jal

(2253-2277-2321) The female seventh host of the Jal symbiont.

Edan Jal

(2294-2321-2365) The male eighth host of the Jal symbiont. He was an administrative assistant to one of the implantation doctors at the Trill Symbiosis Institute.

Tavis Jal

(2342-2365-2374) The male ninth host of the Jal symbiont. A crack pilot in the ranks of Starfleet, who rose to Lieutenant Commander, and Chief Helm Officer of the U.S.S. Valley Forge NCC-43305. During the Battle of Chin'toka (2374) in the Dominion War, he was killed when his console exploded.
