NCC-96364

After two failed attempts at using the Excalibur Class spaceframe, the namesake was transferred to a new Luna Class vessel and placed under the command of its former CO, Captain Bob Martens. The new vessel is currently re-exploring parts of the Alpha and Beta quadrants.

NCC-100001

The USS Excalibur NCC 100001 (formerly NX), an Excalibur Class starship, is technically the second starship of her class however she is the first of her class to be listed as active on the Starfleet roster. She was named to honor the first Excalibur and prototype for the class which was lost mysteriously during it's maiden voyage and shakedown cruise. Later it was discovered that the ships experimental warp core to service the Quantum Slipstream Drive developed by Doctor Jacob Thatcher had become unstable due to prolonged use of the quantum slipstream speeds as opposed to conventional warp speeds.

Although not all was a complete loss as the Starfleet Corps of Engineers had much to learn from the first Excalibur including mismatched system problems. After some time the second hull casing was finally in progress. In 2403 the second ship was finally ready for launch and was put under the command of Jerok, a wise and experienced Romulan who previously served in the Romulan Military and on the Romulan Senate. However it was unknown if any amount of experience could prepare the crew for what they could face.

The ship left dock on June 14th 2403 and left the Sol System successfully under the quantum slipstream drive with a destination of Outpost Four. The ship and all its systems performed fine and began its official active service in Starfleet. In early 2404, with the promotion of Captain Jerok, command of the Excalibur was handed over to the ships first officer, Commander Joesph Hennigan.

Captain Jerok was reassigned from his duties as first officer of the Starfleet Rapid Response Task Force to oversee a refit of the Excalibur system to upgrade components to deal with the ten hour barrier of the slipstream drive at Utopia. Once the refit was complete Captain Hennigan was reassigned elsewhere and Captain Jerok was put back in command, reattaining a position as one of the most respected and highest ranking starship captains.

In 2407 the Excalibur underwent extensive refits to remove it's quantum slipstream drive components (for explanation, see quantum slipstream drive). During that time the crew of the Excalibur enjoyed extended leave, but with the suggestive opening of command of the USS Enterprise Captain Jerok was reassigned there. Commander Hennigan was again promoted to commanding officer of the Excalibur, this time with a promotion in rank to captain as well to seal his fate as commander of the Excalibur more firmly.

NX-100000

First Excalibur Class Starship, lost during its maiden voyage. For many years it was believed that the ship suffered massive damage from it's quantum slipstream drive malfunctioning, then was inevitably destroyed by a Borg sphere about 63 light years from the Sol System.

However in 2403 the more recent USS Excalibur (NX-100001),was sent on a mission by Rear Admiral Donatra to investigate strange energy readings that some of her ships in the Rapid Response Task Force had picked up. When the Excalibur arrived she quickly found her predecessor. After a few hours of rejoicing and finding out what happened from the other Excalibur's crew, the old Excalibur's captain, Captain Dimitri Alexandrovich, stole several engine systems and parts from the new Excalibur's cargo bay.

It was soon realized that the man had gone mad and his actions were unrationalized by being stuck out in open space for ten years with no way to go anywhere. Due to some redesigning of the quantum slipstream drive systems since the first Excalibur's launch, the engine parts weren't compatable. When the first Excalibur went to activate her slipstream drive the ship was destroyed. However the current Excalibur was able to transport over 520 out of 723 of their crew.

The entire matter was unanimously agreed to be classified by Starfleet Command and the first Excalibur Class USS Excalibur is still officially considered missing in action.
