There have been four ships named USS Galaxy since 2356.

NCC-70637

Was the first Galaxy-class starship to be launched and was the prototype for this new class. The Galaxy began her shakedown cruise with the registry NX-70637, however this was changed in 2357 when the vessel was officially comissioned. The vessel was in service for twenty three years before it was decomissioned in 2380. The ship participated heavily in early exploration missions in the 2360s and was involved in the major battles of the Dominion War including the first battle of Chin'toka and the final assault on Cardassia Prime. The vessel's last mission was its assignment in patrolling the Romulan Neutral Zone in late 2379 where it formed part of Battle Group Omega in sector 1045. The Galaxy later tractored the Enterprise-E back to Earth following the flagship's mission to Romulus where it had successfully destroyed the Reman warbird Scimitar saving Earth from possible destruction.

NCC-70637-A

The second ship to bear the name was also a Galaxy-Class vessel and was assigned to the Fourth Fleet's Task Force 38. The ship was lost with the rest of its task force in 2388 while defending Trill from a Borg attack.

NCC-70637-B

The third ship was a Galaxy Refit-class vessel and assigned to the Allied fleet sent to destroy the Borg shipyard in Cardassian space in 2394. The Galaxy-B was heavily damaged however assisted in destroying at least four cubes and seven spheres in total. Due to the total nature of damage sustained, the ship was scrapped upon her return to Earth and her parts used to build the next Galaxy.

NCC-70637-C

With the added troubles in constructing a Galaxy-refit class vessel over the evolved standard frame design with what the war had proven to be only a small tactical advantage, the fourth vessel to bear the name was a Galaxy-class starship and upon its comission, command was given to Captain Samantha Wildman. The ship was launched from the Oakland Shipyards in 2396. In 2398, the vessel was a group leader in Strike Force Alpha the lead Allied combat wing in the Battle of Sol and was one of only a handful out of the original 1500 SF-A vessels to survive.

The ship is now assigned to the First Fleet and in early 2403 performed battle simulations with several Klingon starships in orbit of Earth.
